IoTerop to Support Initiative Promoting IoT Industry Best Practices and Transparency
“IoXt’s efforts to align IoT industry actors, define clear, understandable security practices, fit with IoTerop’s core values and product philosophy. It is in everybody’s interest to create a climate of confidence necessary for wider adoption,” declares Hatem Oueslati, CEO, IoTorop.
“We are excited to have IoTerop as a part of the ioXt Alliance. Device management services, like IoTerop’s, are significant, often overlooked components of IoT security practices,” affirms Brad Ree, CTO, ioXt.
The ioXt Alliance is an industry-led effort to assure greater security, upgradability, and transparency. To achieve this, the ioXt Alliance works to build manufacturer and consumer confidence in IoT product safety.
“Security has always been an IoTerop obsession. We work with both the Internet Engineering Task Force and the Open Mobile Alliance to define security standards. However, more must be done to create greater transparency,” says David Navarro, CPO, IoTerop, and current OMA SpecWorks board member.
Itron, Elvaco, Traxens, Electricité de France (EDF), amongst others, depend on IoTerop’s Lightweight M2M device management solutions to ensure their solutions are secured using state-of-the-art, end-to-end encryption, and authentication at the data, data-transport, and applicative level adapted to IoT’s constraints.
A security framework, combined with other security supporting services such a public-key (PKI) management, and the ability to support over-the-air firmware updates, is critical to addressing security challenges.
“The need is clear. IoT devices are vulnerable, and organizations and consumers are rightfully concerned. The Mirai DDoS attack targeted IoT devices doing considerable economic damage, taking whole countries offline. More recently, the industry learned about the Ripple20 vulnerability involving hundreds of millions of devices. IoTerop, and others, have the technology to address these issues, but first, these issues must be better understood. ioXt’s work to align concerned parties is critical,” says IoTerop, CTO, Jacques Bourhis.

IoTerop’s device management solutions help organizations achieve their strategic objectives by limiting the resources needed to build, deploy, and securely manage connected objects. IoTerop’s software adheres to the Open Mobile Alliance’s (OMA) Lightweight M2M 1.1 standard used in millions of devices worldwide. IoTerop is currently an OMA SpecWorks board member along with AT&T, Ericsson, T-Mobile, ARM, Itron, and Qualcomm and a significant contributor to the Lightweight M2M 1.1 standard.
