Melbourne, Australia – 28 June 2022 – Eden Worth, an Australian manufacturer of industrial IoT hardware, has partnered with IoTerop, a leading IoT device management software company, to offer Lightweight Machine to Machine (LwM2M) capabilities in its Optima smart sensor device through the use of IoTerop’s IOWA software development kit. This strategic decision offers agricultural technology, logistics, utility, security, environmental, and industrial companies two major benefits that are particularly suited to the Australian landscape: interoperability and secure connectivity.

Interoperability and Open Standards

The adoption of LwM2M has grown throughout Australia in the past few years, partly due to its stance on open standards, or non-proprietary technology. For smart sensors like Optima, this means that IoT devices can use any cellular network to provide connection, avoiding vendor lock-in and privatized networks. Thanks to LwM2M, Optima can be managed by any LwM2M-capable IoT device management platform, equating to a variety of service provider choices for Optima customers.

NB-IoT Enabled

Optima offers NB-IoT connectivity, which is the favored protocol in hard-to-reach or constrained environments. NB-IoT’s messaging capabilities are unlocked by pairing this protocol with IoTerop’s implementation of LwM2M, which translates to some major advantages for Eden Worth customers including: longer battery life, less strain on the device, and a longer device lifecycle, even if the device is difficult to access.

Out of the Box Security

LwM2M offers the ability to keep devices secure with firmware over the air (FOTA) updates. It offers complete IoT device lifecycle management, meaning that a device can have the latest software updates throughout its entire lifespan. In addition to LwM2M capabilities, Optima also offers the ability to use pre-shared keys or PSKs and secure boot, meaning that security is enabled from the very beginning. Eden Worth has selected the DTLS communications protocol library to encrypt their LwM2M messages so that the sensors are truly secure for the long-term.

“Eden Worth is committed to providing a complete solution for its clients’ numerous industrial IoT needs, which means offering a portfolio of devices that can connect using any of the technologies used by our clients,” commented Dale Gomes, Owner of Eden Worth. “Our products have long featured LoRaWAN, Sigfox, and NB-IoT connectivity options, but we’ve seen the promise and accessibility that LwM2M offers for sustainable, long-term IoT connectivity. When searching for a LwM2M provider that has experience in the Australian market, selecting IoTerop was a very easy and natural choice.”

“IoTerop has recently expanded its activities in Australia for this exact reason—to offer a more holistic support experience for clients in this important market,” said Hatem Oueslati, CEO of IoTerop.” We are proud to partner with Eden Worth to harness the power that IoT has to offer, and to make it easily accessible for everyone.”

Optima is NB-IoT/Cat M1 capable and supports bands B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B12, B13, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B27, B28, B66, B71, and B85. It is currently being trialed by major companies in the smart cities, utilities, and telecommunications sectors.
